Co-funded by the regional development programme Interreg SUDOE 21-27 with \u20ac1,389,232.10, SOLLAGUA will be implemented in several regions of Spain, Portugal and France.<\/h3>\n

The three-year initiative is driven by a transnational consortium of ten partners and 26 associated partners.<\/h3>\n

If urgent and cross-cutting measures are not taken, the extreme heat, drought, forest fires, and floods that have been experienced in recent years will worsen in Europe, especially in the southern regions of the continent, which are at the centre of multiple climate risks due to their geographical and climatological situation. In this regard, as the European Environment Agency (EEA) states in its new report European Climate Risk Assessment, which will help identify policy priorities for climate change adaptation at all levels, closer cooperation between Member States is essential, as most of the main climate risks identified in the report are considered to be \u2018co-owned\u2019 by the European Union (EU).<\/p>\n

The EEA evaluation stresses that the EU and its Member States must work together to combat climate risks and ensure the involvement of regional and local authorities where rapid and coordinated action is needed. The SOLLAGUA project is a good example of such a course of action.<\/p>\n

SOLLAGUA will actively involve all stakeholders in the project thanks to the water-oriented living labs<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Co-funded by the Interreg SUDOE regional development programme with \u20ac1,389,232.10, SOLLAGUA aims to promote nature-based solutions (NBS) for water reuse in rural areas with limited access to water and low natural flows, as is the case in many parts of Spain, Portugal and France.<\/p>\n

\"SOLLAGUA:<\/p>\n

The SOLLAGUA action plan envisages, among other solutions, the installation of three demonstrators in the selected areas of the participating countries to highlight the advantages of the SBN system. In addition, the project’s targeting strategy will make it possible to determine the appropriate level of water treatment according to actual needs. The initiative will actively involve administrations, universities, companies, and users thanks to the water-oriented living labs (WoLL), which are innovation ecosystems open to all project stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Within the cooperation themes<\/a> of the cohesion programme, the initiative, which will officially run until 31 December 2026, is implemented under Priority 1<\/strong> “Preserving the natural capital and strengthening adaptation to climate change in the SUDOE area” and pursues Specific Objective 2.5 “Promoting access to water and sustainable water management.”<\/p>\n

SOLLAGUA, which is promoted by a transnational consortium of ten partners and twenty-six associated partners, is coordinated by the University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, which, as tradition dictates, was the institution in charge of organising the traditional launch meeting, which took place on 14 and 15 January at the university’s headquarters in Toulouse (France). Representatives of the beneficiary entities travelled there to establish the bases for the planning, execution and monitoring of the project.<\/p>\n
