The partners of the ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a> project gathered for two consecutive workdays to celebrate the launch of this international project, whose goal is to improve the ecosystem of vineyards located in high ecological value areas through the implementation of a green infrastructure network for their conservation and sustainable management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This means launching a planned and interconnected system of natural elements in vineyard areas to enhance the natural capital and biodiversity of vineyards, thus increasing their resilience to climate change.<\/p>\n

To address this challenge, the project will rely on two pilot sites in the Gaillac-Tarn area in southern France and another in Spain-Portugal with three experimental zones<\/strong>. In these vineyards, a methodology will be implemented to select, calculate, and map the most relevant ecosystem services, establishing future scenarios that facilitate decision-making and allow for the transfer and replication of tested solutions on an international scale.<\/p>\n

A total of 13 entities from Spain, France, and Portugal<\/strong> will work under the coordination of the Juana de Vega Foundation over the next three years on this initiative, which has a budget of \u20ac1,622,891.04, co-financed at 75% by the Interreg Sudoe Program<\/a> with FEDER funds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the first workday, the Juana de Vega Foundation<\/a>, the event host, welcomed attendees with remarks from its Innovation Director, Alfonso Ribas, who expressed his gratitude to the other project partners. Ribas emphasized that \u201cthis project represents an opportunity for the development of the wine sector in southern Europe to incorporate aspects related to landscape care, biodiversity, water, soil, and cultural, material, and immaterial heritage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The meeting also featured Gloria L\u00e1zaro, project manager of the Interreg Sudoe<\/a> Joint Secretariat, who highlighted that \u201cinitiatives like ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a> help address transnational challenges and seek common solutions where collaboration becomes essential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Institutional Presentation and Field Visits<\/strong><\/h6>\n

The second workday began with an institutional presentation of the project through a hybrid event aimed at various stakeholders and wine industry experts.<\/p>\n

The session was opened by Jos\u00e9 Manuel Andrade Calvo, Director of the Juana de Vega Foundation<\/a>; Isabel Gonz\u00e1lez Siso, Deputy Director of the CICA at the University of La Coru\u00f1a<\/a>; and Sergio Platas, Vice President of the Mari\u00f1as Coru\u00f1esas Biosphere Reserve<\/a>. They all agreed on the important role that European R&D&I projects like ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a> play in promoting sustainability and enhancing the international standing of Galicia’s agriculture through the wine sector.<\/p>\n

After the presentation of ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a> by Tania Gesto, Innovation and Research Project Technician at the Juana de Vega Foundation<\/a>, attendees visited the Mari\u00f1as Coru\u00f1esas Biosphere Reserve<\/a>, as well as the vineyards and winery of Pagos de Brigante<\/a>, which is involved in the project’s trials.<\/p>\n

About the\u00a0ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a>\u00a0consortium<\/h6>\n

The partners carrying out\u00a0ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a>\u00a0activities comprise a total of 13 entities from 3 countries: Spain, France, and Portugal. All are coordinated by the\u00a0Juana de Vega Foundation<\/a>.
\nThe Spanish partners include the\u00a0Universidade da Coru\u00f1a<\/a>,\u00a0ITER Investigaci\u00f3n<\/a>, the\u00a0European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Duero-Douro<\/a>, the\u00a0Mari\u00f1as Coru\u00f1esas Biosphere Reserve<\/a>, the\u00a0Wine Technology Platform<\/a>, the\u00a0Agricultural Technology Institute of Castilla y Le\u00f3n (ITACyL)<\/a>, and the\u00a0Pagos de Brigante<\/a>\u00a0winery.
\nPortugal is represented by the\u00a0Associa\u00e7\u00e3o para o Desenvolvimento da Viticultura Duriense (ADVID)<\/a>, the\u00a0Universidade de Tr\u00e1s-os-Montes e Alto Douro<\/a>, and the\u00a0Duorum Vinhos winery<\/a>.
\nFinally, the French entities involved in the\u00a0ECOSPHEREWINES<\/a>\u00a0project are the\u00a0Institut Fran\u00e7ais de la Vigne et du Vin (IFV)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Interprofession des Vins du Sud-ouest France<\/a>.<\/p>\n
