The main objective of the event is to <strong data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"388\">raise awareness and provide training<\/strong> on the <strong data-start=\"396\" data-end=\"427\">risks of PFAS contamination<\/strong> (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in natural ecosystems, particularly in areas affected by wildfires.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"545\" data-end=\"809\">The workshop will focus on <strong data-start=\"572\" data-end=\"635\">presenting the project\u2019s objectives and preliminary results<\/strong>, while also offering a space for dialogue with participants and a <strong data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"717\">field visit<\/strong> to key sites from the Asturias case study, including the <strong data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"808\">Rioseco water treatment plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"1034\">Key topics will include <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"890\">wildfire management and the use of PFAS-based foams<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"925\">detection and mapping of PFAS<\/strong> in the SUDOE region (Spain, France and Portugal), and the <strong data-start=\"984\" data-end=\"1033\">development of a digital risk assessment tool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1319\">The event is aimed at <strong data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1076\">water managers<\/strong>, from both public administrations and private operators, who are interested in understanding the risks associated with emerging contaminants. It also targets <strong data-start=\"1235\" data-end=\"1260\">natural park managers<\/strong> facing conservation challenges in wildfire-affected areas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1321\" data-end=\"1620\">Participation is also open to <strong data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1391\">fire and emergency response services<\/strong>, key actors in the application of PFAS-containing firefighting foams. Its main goal is to <strong data-start=\"2088\" data-end=\"2188\">design and implement a transnational strategy to detect, prevent and mitigate PFAS contamination<\/strong> in natural areas across Southwestern Europe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2235\" data-end=\"2622\">The project consortium includes <strong data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2282\">10 partners<\/strong> from <strong data-start=\"2288\" data-end=\"2318\">Spain, Portugal and France<\/strong>, including universities, technology centers, public authorities, foundations specializing in knowledge transfer, and emergency services, with the support of <strong data-start=\"2476\" data-end=\"2502\">12 associated partners<\/strong>. ALERT-PFAS has a total budget of <strong data-start=\"2537\" data-end=\"2551\">\u20ac1,845,945<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"2553\" data-end=\"2621\">75% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2624\" data-end=\"2900\">The initiative addresses the <strong data-start=\"2653\" data-end=\"2723\">risks that PFAS pose to human health, biodiversity, and ecosystems<\/strong>, by developing <strong data-start=\"2739\" data-end=\"2797\">innovative technological tools for real-time detection<\/strong>.
