Here, concrete, participatory solutions are developed to tackle climate-related threats such as water shortages and biodiversity loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funded by the Interreg Sudoe VI Programme, RTL seeks to foster a new form of participatory climate governance through co-constructed local strategies, community engagement and innovative digital tools\u2014most notably a GIS platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adopting a systemic, ecosystem-based approach, the project will deliver three pilot schemes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>P\u00f3voa de Lanhoso, Portugal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: an ecological strategy for urban green spaces using low-water-demand vegetation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cartagena, Spain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: a solar-powered atmospheric moisture-condensation system to support agriculture in arid terrain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Est Creuse, France<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the restoration of traditional hedgerows for water retention and biodiversity enhancement.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each pilot will serve as a testbed for sustainable water management, biodiversity promotion and climate adaptation. Solutions will be designed, trialled and refined in close cooperation with local communities to help them adjust to a changing climate and bolster their resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RTL\u2019s partners include <\/span><b>RURENER<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (the European network of rural energy-transition communities), <\/span><b>CETENMA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Technological Centre for Energy and the Environment), the <\/span><b>Ayuntamiento de Cartagena<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Institute for Research in Science and Sustainability Technologies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Syndicat Mixte Est Creuse D\u00e9veloppement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><b>Comunidade Intermunicipal do Ave<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Municipality of P\u00f3voa de Lanhoso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The ultimate goal?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To establish a scalable, replicable network of Rural Transition Labs across Southern Europe, empowering rural communities to lead the ecological transition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rural Transition Labs is more than a project\u2014it is a movement towards a more sustainable and resilient rural future!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Southern Europe has been affected by rising temperatures, water scarcity and land-use conflicts, all of which threaten agricultural productivity, social cohesion, territorial balance, infrastructure stability and the quality of life of local residents\u2014factors that contribute to rural depopulation.
