Technical words that are part of our everyday vocabulary, but need to be \u201ctranslated\u201d into a child\u2019s language. That was the challenge of the educational activity organized last week as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/en\/proyecto-interreg\/ecospherewines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong data-start=\"3713\" data-end=\"3732\">ECOSPHEREWINES<\/strong><\/a> project, aimed at introducing sustainable viticulture to our young \u2014 and demanding \u2014 neighbors from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edu.xunta.gal\/centros\/ceipoleiros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong data-start=\"3833\" data-end=\"3855\">CEIP Juana de Vega<\/strong><\/a>.<br data-start=\"3856\" data-end=\"3859\" \/>The students became biologists for a day and created a bird nest box and a mini-vineyard in a small plot at the school, where a larger birdhouse and an insect hotel were also installed. We planted four Blanca Leg\u00edtima vines, the ancestral variety of IGP Betanzos, which they later saw in person at the <a href=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/en\/proyecto-interreg\/ecospherewines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong data-start=\"4169\" data-end=\"4188\">ECOSPHEREWINES<\/strong><\/a> experimental plot.<br data-start=\"4207\" data-end=\"4210\" \/>\u201cThe vines,\u201d the technicians explained, \u201cdo not live alone. They need the sun, the water, and all the plants, insects, and birds around them to grow under optimal conditions and produce good-quality grapes.\u201d<br data-start=\"4417\" data-end=\"4420\" \/>Homework: take care of the vines, watch for the arrival of new residents in the nest box and insect hotel, and in spring, plant rosemary, basil, and lavender seeds so these living beings have food and can play their role in this small ecosystem \u2014 one they, too, are part of. \u201cWhen the grapes grow, you\u2019ll be able to eat them.
