Beyond biodiversity loss and socio-economic damage, these extreme events can promote the <strong data-start=\"315\" data-end=\"375\">release and dispersion of highly persistent contaminants<\/strong>, such as <strong data-start=\"385\" data-end=\"431\">PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)<\/strong>, through smoke, ash and post-fire run-off.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"476\" data-end=\"824\">This phenomenon is particularly critical in <strong data-start=\"520\" data-end=\"554\">wildland\u2013urban interface areas<\/strong>, where the combustion of synthetic materials and the use of firefighting foams and retardants can reintroduce PFAS into the environment, affecting high-value ecosystems, water bodies and, ultimately, human health and the <strong data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"823\">occupational health of emergency responders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"826\" data-end=\"874\">A workshop led by Medi XXI within ALERT-PFAS<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"1178\">In this context, the European project <strong data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"927\">ALERT-PFAS<\/strong> is hosting the online workshop <strong data-start=\"959\" data-end=\"1054\">\u201cPFAS, wildfires and territory: strategies for action in the face of an emerging challenge\u201d<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1104\">led by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Medi XXI<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, with the support and active participation of the other project partners.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1512\">The workshop is aimed at <strong data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1236\">environmental professionals<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1260\">emergency services<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1299\">public administration technicians<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1325\">land-use managers<\/strong>, and seeks to <strong data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1438\">shed light on a contamination pathway that is still rarely integrated into wildfire management<\/strong>, by combining scientific knowledge, practical tools and joint reflection.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1536\">Session objectives<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1537\" data-end=\"1554\">The session will:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1965\">\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1671\">\n<p data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1671\">Share the <strong data-start=\"1567\" data-end=\"1597\">latest scientific advances<\/strong> on the presence, detection and behaviour of PFAS in post-fire contexts;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1810\">\n<p data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1810\">Analyse their impacts on <strong data-start=\"1699\" data-end=\"1713\">ecosystems<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"1732\">public health<\/strong> and, in particular, the <strong data-start=\"1757\" data-end=\"1807\">occupational health of wildfire response teams<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1811\" data-end=\"1965\">\n<p data-start=\"1813\" data-end=\"1965\">Foster dialogue on how to <strong data-start=\"1839\" data-end=\"1905\">integrate PFAS into emergency planning and wildfire management<\/strong>, without shifting responsibility onto frontline responders.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1967\" data-end=\"1991\">Programme highlights<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2083\">The workshop combines strategic perspectives with applied cases and decision-support tools:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2654\">\n<li data-start=\"2085\" data-end=\"2158\">\n<p data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2158\"><strong data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2104\">10:00 \u2013 10:10<\/strong> | Welcome and introduction<br data-start=\"2131\" data-end=\"2134\" \/><em data-start=\"2136\" data-end=\"2158\">Ferran Dalmau Rovira<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2160\" data-end=\"2288\">\n<p data-start=\"2162\" data-end=\"2288\"><strong data-start=\"2162\" data-end=\"2179\">10:10 \u2013 10:45<\/strong> | Transnational PFAS Strategy in the SUDOE Area<br data-start=\"2227\" data-end=\"2230\" \/><em data-start=\"2232\" data-end=\"2288\">Ana B.
