Meet Daniel Rem\u00f3n, selected in the third call with his project Enrev.<\/h2>\n

I hold a degree in Mathematics and a degree in Industrial Engineering<\/a> from the Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya (UPC). During the final years of my studies, I specialised in power electronics as a key tool for integrating renewable energy into the electricity grid, which led me to undertake an industrial PhD at Abengoa in Seville, focused on the impact of photovoltaic generation on power system stability. In 2017, I was awarded a PhD in Electrical Energy Systems by UPC.<\/p>\n

Following this stage, I began working on solutions aimed at making electric vehicles an accessible option for the general public and supporting their positive integration into the electricity grid, thereby contributing to the deployment of clean energy sources. This work led to the concept that gave rise to Enrev<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result of this initial development and my interest in promoting electric mobility from Asturias, I joined guppy in 2019, where I served as Chief Technical Officer until 2024. At that point, and in agreement with the company\u2019s founders, I decided to formally establish Enrev<\/strong> as a limited company in order to bring our electric vehicle concept into the industrial domain. This initiative emerged in a particularly significant context for the sector: major European manufacturers were beginning to see their position \u2014 and with it the stability of many jobs in Europe \u2014 threatened by the emergence of new competitors, primarily Chinese, who currently hold a significant competitive advantage in the field of electric vehicles, which are expected to become the dominant technology in the increasingly near future.<\/p>\n

What stage is your start-up currently at?<\/h3>\n

We are currently finalising a prototype with which we expect to reach TRL 6 following the validation phase<\/strong>, thereby attracting the interest of automotive manufacturers and their suppliers in order to launch a pilot project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

What is the nature of your project, and what problem does it aim to solve?<\/h3>\n

We carry out research and development activities aimed at advancing the electrification of road transport and facilitating the reliable integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid. This effort is reflected in the development of a technology designed to make electric vehicles affordable and practical for the general public, so that they become the preferred choice in terms of cost and performance, rather than an option adopted solely due to environmental constraints.<\/p>\n

Specifically, this technology is based on a modular battery swapping system<\/a> that enables vehicles to be designed with an energy capacity tailored to everyday use, reducing total manufacturing costs by around 20%, without permanently limiting their driving range. On the contrary, this approach allows the range to be increased within minutes whenever necessary, thereby removing one of the main barriers to the adoption of electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

In addition, interchangeable batteries can play a particularly valuable role when they are not installed in vehicles, either by providing ancillary services to the electricity grid or by supporting stationary energy storage installations.<\/p>\n

In the long term, I see Enrev as a company focused on developing solutions that bring electric vehicles closer to the general public<\/strong>, as well as on intelligent energy management across different types of systems and the control of electricity networks, thereby contributing to the development of a clean, sustainable energy system with reduced geopolitical dependency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Our objectives during the program<\/strong>\u00a0are to complete the prototype, establish collaborations with key industry stakeholders to advance the joint development of the technology, and define a scalable business model built around this technical collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Who is your target market and what customer need are you addressing?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Our main customers are traditional automotive manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, and battery manufacturers. We may also consider energy companies from different sectors, but especially electricity utilities. Automotive manufacturers and their suppliers<\/strong> need a technology that enables them to regain the competitive advantage currently held by their Chinese competitors, thanks to their speed of innovation and high level of vertical integration. Our technology allows them to offer attractive electric vehicles at lower prices. For battery manufacturers, interchangeable batteries provide a way to bring their advances to market more quickly than through the lengthy vehicle design processes. For users, this technology solves the problem of accessing an affordable electric vehicle suitable for any type of journey.<\/p>\n

What challenges do you identify today?<\/h3>\n

At present, the main challenge is to gain access to key stakeholders in the automotive industry in order to validate the business model and accelerate technical development.<\/strong> In the medium and long term, challenges may arise related to vehicle regulation and the deployment of the swapping network, although our technology incorporates elements that help reduce its cost.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
