On January 15 and 16, 2026, the Cyan\u2019EAU<\/strong> project consortium held its second in\u2011person meeting<\/strong> at the ADEIT<\/strong> facilities in Valencia (Spain).<\/p>\n

The meeting, organised by CIDE\u2011CSIC<\/strong>, served to review the progress of technical activities, share preliminary results, and coordinate the next steps of the project, which focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of cyanobacterial proliferations in aquatic systems in southwestern Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the working sessions, partners from Spain, Portugal and France presented the progress of Work Package 1, including the completion of the literature review on the pilot sites, advances in the historical analysis of sediments, and sampling activities carried out in lakes and reservoirs in the three countries. Methodological developments in the laboratory for the detection of cyanotoxins were also presented, along with the planning of new sampling campaigns coordinated with satellite data.<\/p>\n

The meeting also enabled progress to be made in defining real\u2011time hydroclimatic and physicochemical monitoring activities<\/strong>, analysing anthropogenic impacts in the pilot catchments, and designing an early warning system based on satellite imagery, which will be tested in later phases of the project.<\/p>\n

In addition, approaches and criteria for the development of pilot tests on prevention, early detection and mitigation were discussed<\/strong>. These tests will be launched from 2026 onwards, integrating sensor data, laboratory results and predictive models.<\/p>\n

During the second day of the meeting, several key aspects of the project were addressed, with particular attention given to administrative and financial management and to communication. In this context, a detailed review of the communication strategy was carried out, analysing its main lines of action and the elements planned to strengthen its visibility and coherence throughout the project\u2019s implementation.<\/p>\n

The consortium thanks CIDE\u2011CSIC for its excellent organisation and the warm welcome in Valencia, and continues to move forward in a coordinated manner to address one of the major environmental and public health challenges associated with surface water quality in the Sudoe<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
