This treatment significantly improves the physical and chemical properties of the parts, providing high hardness, resistance to wear, abrasion, and corrosion. Traditionally, this process uses hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), a highly toxic and carcinogenic compound. Exposure to Cr(VI) can cause lung and paranasal sinus cancer, as well as respiratory, liver, and kidney problems.Hard chrome is widely used in various industrial sectors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aeronautics:<\/strong> Applied to cylinders, pistons, valves, seals, shafts, bearings, and landing gear elements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automotive:<\/strong> Used on crankshafts, connecting rods, axles, and steering systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Energy industry:<\/strong> Employed in components of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Industrial machinery:<\/strong> Applied to a variety of components to improve their durability and performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Pilot 1 of the RESINSURF Project: Hard Chrome without Cr(VI)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/en\/proyecto-interreg\/resinsurf\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-41265 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"327\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/RESINSURF_EFC.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 327px) 100vw, 327px\" \/>RESINSURF<\/a>&#8216;s Pilot 1 specifically focuses on the development and validation of a method for hard chrome without using hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)). This ambitious project aims to find a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional hard chrome, especially for functional applications in the aeronautics and automotive sectors. The pilot not only seeks to replicate the properties of conventional hard chrome but also to eliminate the risks associated with the use of Cr(VI). The initiative is crucial in the current context, where environmental and occupational health regulations are increasingly strict. The development of this Cr(VI)-free hard chrome method could mark a before and after in the coating industry, offering a solution that combines technical excellence with environmental responsibility and workplace safety. <a href=\"https:\/\/interreg-sudoe.eu\/en\/proyecto-interreg\/resinsurf\/\">RESINSURF<\/a> is leading the way towards safer and more environmentally friendly industrial processes, without compromising the quality and performance of final products.<\/p>\n<p>Participating in the development and implementation of this pilot are:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/surfaceengineering.cidetec.es\/\">CIDETEC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ineosurf.fr\/\">INEOSURF<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ri.univ-pau.fr\/es\/inicio.html\">University of Pau<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The validation of Pilot 1 will be developed at:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chrome-dur-industriel.fr\/\">Chrome Dur Industriel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"CDI UT2A EN\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wCqwNH52jvM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WHAT IS A PILOT?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>A pilot, in the industrial context, is a small-scale version of a process or technology that is used to test and validate its effectiveness before implementing it on a large scale.
