The experimental areas are located in central France, north-western Spain and southern Portugal and belong to very different soil and climate zones, with diverse socio-economic characteristics. However, they face common challenges such as loss of soil organic matter and increased water stress due to climate change. All of this leads to a loss of microbial life and, consequently, soil fertility. Other soil problems in these areas include the impact of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers.<\/p>\n
PILOT1 TERRAVITIS<\/b> addresses these challenges by improving soil health\/quality through the use of RLC or its by-products (e.g. bioactive amendments), reducing the sector’s carbon footprint and the impact of pesticides on the environment. The actions will be carried out in three wine-growing areas with different soil\/climate characteristics, where the needs of each soil differ, and will include:<\/p>\n
1. Diagnosis of soil health\/quality in the regions under study<\/p>\n
2. Scaling up an SSF system (TRL6 maturity level) to obtain amendments enriched with bioproducts (e.g., cellulolytic enzymes, biopesticides) from RLCs from experimental farms. Thus, solutions focused on soil sustainability will be sought, taking advantage of resources obtained in situ on the farms<\/p>\n
3. Evaluation of the impact of the developed amendments on pesticides and on soil quality\/health (physical, chemical and microbiological properties). This will be carried out on three experimental farms, also addressing the study of their effect on the microbial terroir<\/p>\n
4. Microvinification studies to see the effect of the amendments on the final product and obtain wines with distinctive characteristics. These actions seek to advance the adoption of sustainable soil management practices and minimise diffuse pesticide contamination in vineyards by developing organic amendments capable of minimising the aforementioned problems in the vineyards themselves (in situ).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
