The European retail sector has undergone a considerable expansion and transformation over recent decades, due to technological innovation and regulatory changes of this sector. Large retail traders have been the main beneficiaries, compared with the small businesses and microenterprises, by their ability to exploit economies of scale, increase productivity and offer lower prices. However, self-employed and microenterprises are the backbone of the business of the retail sector with represent over 95%.
The project aim is to foster innovation in European SMEs in the retail sector in a context of the need to adapt to the ICT changes. The small size of the retail sector businesses, its limited financial capacity and weak technological tradition, makes them limited access to innovation, reducing their competitiveness. This jeopardizes the sustainability of efficient business model in the Sudoe area, which is based on the diversity of formats and types in which small businesses dominate.
The project focuses on the development of innovative actions in two key areas: the training of the employer and employee operating in the retail sector and the regional economic dynamics affecting retail sector.
The project will develop and implement of pilot tests in real stores doing a diagnostic tool technology and competitive improvement aimed at small businesses to optimize the point of sale (space for interaction with customers and which largely decides of buying decisions).
