Gijón is a coastal city located in an industrial environment, but with great attractions in its rural-urban area, which wants to strengthen, among others, as lines of work for a new emerging economy based on traditional and sustainable uses of the territory.. The project aims to protect, improve, value, know and publicize the rural-urban green infrastructure.

The fundamental objectives are to increase biodiversity in the environment, to recover cultural and ethnographic heritage, as well as to promote ecological and sustainable use.

The actions will have as a guiding principle a planning of the territory that prime the mentioned objectives, incorporating the creation of a biological corridor in rural-urban zone.

Resultados Esperados:

  • increase biodervisty in wildlife.
  • give ecological continuity to an undervalued rural-urban space
  • reduce invasive and non-target species.
  • reduce the use of biocides through the proper management of the territory
  • improve the edaphic quality of the soil, reducing the affection for environmental risks derived from adverse meteorological phenomena
  • to value ethnographic and cultural elements, promoting the improvement of the perception of the natural and cultural environment by the citizens
  • to increase the ecological and sustainable use of the territory.

The actions to be designed, planned and developed include:

  • selection of plots of action according to criteria of biodiversity enhancement, union of biological corridors, giving priority to river beds as a connection nexus.
  • reforestation with native species, elimination of alien and invasive species, with strategies for citizen participation in the work to be carried out in order to increase the population's ecological heritage and its value.
  • search and promotion of activities compatible with traditional and ecological uses of the territory, especially important in an economy based on heavy industry in which new spaces are required for the development of economic activities compatible with the environment.
  • identification and enhancement of ethnographic and cultural elements, promotion and enhancement of spaces recovered and rehabilitated among citizens
  • establishment of natural and cultural itineraries that allow the observation of species of flora and fauna, as well as the appreciation of the recovery of the environment with minimal affectation to it.
