INVASIVE LAND-AREA Project consists of the design and implementation of a System for Prevention, Early Warning and Immediate Response to invasions of the most dangerous invasive species of flora in the most valuable rivers and riverbanks in the Atlantic area.

This project is aimed at dealing with the effects generated by the most dangerous invasive species of flora in the riverside ecosystems of the Atlantic area, as well as to prevent the expansion of new invasive alien species in the future and to control their possible routes of penetration.

The project is aimed at:

1. Stop the loss of biodiversity generated by the invasion of exotic Invasive Plant Species of rivers and shores belonging to the Atlantic Natura 2000 Network

2. To restore atlantic river-banks ecosystems and related Habitats of Priority Interest

3. To reinforce the optimal characteristics of Atlantic rivers and shores from the perspective of their ecosystem services

4. To implement an Integrated Early Warning and Rapid Response System for the prevention, control and erradication of most dangerous invasive plant species throughtout Atlantic Area, among other: Baccharis halimifolia, Cortaderia selloana, Buddleja davidii, Carpobrotus edulis and Fallopia japonica, etc.

5. To enhance green job related to the control and elimination of invasive plants for people in situations of exclusion.

6. To raise awareness of the commercial and business sectors (garden companies, nurseries, public works, etc.) on invasive species for the application of prevention and control processes.

7. To raise society and social agents awareness of the reality and problems of plant invasions at the environmental, economic and social levels.

• Compare innovative methodologies and investigation for recording data on the distribution, prevention and eradication of invasive species of flora in similar ecosystems (Atlantic Coastal Forests above all)

• Eradication actions (immediate response and continuous eradication of priority invasive species) carried out by people in situations of exclusion.

• Restoration of the Atlantic coastal forest in the rivers and worked areas.

• Removal of heavy and hazardous waste from the riverbanks and riverbeds.

• Training actions for professionals of competent administrations and business sector for the prevention and eradication of the different species of invasive flora.

• Creation of jobs (green jobs) for vulnerable collectives and groups in difficulties and risk of exclusion
