Second harvest from the ICVV pilot vineyard to assess the effect of reclaimed water on product quality

On 4 September 2025, the harvest took place at the pilot vineyard of the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences (ICVV) located at the Finca de la Grajera (Logroño, La Rioja), one of the most eagerly awaited moments in the wine-growing calendar.

After the grapes were harvested, the main components of the production were analysed by treatment (reclaimed water and conventional water) and repetition (3R). The weight of the harvest, the number of bunches per plant, the number of berries per bunch and the weight of 100 berries were evaluated.

Based on the samples obtained, a physical-chemical analysis of the must was carried out using an enzymatic method to determine certain parameters related to the quality of the grapes, such as pH, total acidity, reducing sugars, etc.

In the coming months, analyses of volatile compounds in the musts will be carried out, which will allow the aromatic quality of the musts to be evaluated and thus predict the aroma of future wines, with the aim of assessing whether the use of reclaimed water has an effect on their quality.
