The Social Services Directorate of Castilla y León, a partner in the European project HENKO NET, has successfully completed the mini‑pilot of INTecum – End‑of‑Life Care, an innovative initiative that aims to provide a comprehensive, person‑centered model to improve the quality of life of individuals facing end‑of‑life situations in the region, by providing them with the support they need so that the progression of the illness can take place in the person’s home through an integrated social and healthcare process, with respectful accompaniment and promoting active social participation.

Conducted between November and December 2025, the mini‑pilot involved 12 INTecum participants who completed an anonymous 17‑question survey. The purpose of the study was to gather detailed insights to identify areas for improvement, assess user satisfaction, and explore the potential integration of several digital technologies included in the project’s Toolbox.

Findings that reinforce a person‑centered care model

The analysis revealed a very high level of satisfaction across all evaluated aspects. Participants unanimously reported that:

  • They always feel heard,
  • Their decisions are consistently respected,
  • The support they receive adapts to their personal needs and circumstances.

These results reinforce INTecum’s commitment to a person‑centered approach, where respect, autonomy, and active listening are core principles.

The role of technology and supportive products

The survey also highlighted the usefulness of various assistive products aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and autonomy—such as environmental control devices, mobility aids, and assistive communication tools.

Additionally, the role of the personal assistant emerged as essential within long‑term care pathways. This professional:

  • Provides continuous support and companionship,
  • Carries out essential tasks aligned with the individual’s life project,
  • Coordinates access to services and resources,
  • Assists in decision‑making processes.

Participants emphasized that without this crucial figure, the implementation of the project would not be feasible.

A heartfelt acknowledgment

The Social Services Directorate expresses its sincere gratitude to all individuals who contributed to the mini‑pilot, particularly to participants who generously shared their experiences during challenging personal moments. Their insights are invaluable for strengthening and expanding the INTecum model.
