La trayectoria de Spainsif como asociación sin ánimo de lucro se centra desde 2009 en la promoción y difusión de las finanzas sostenibles desde un punto de vista multiactor en España, y como parte de la red europea Eurosif. Las finanzas sostenibles son aquellas que incorporan criterios ambientales, sociales y de gobernanza a la toma de decisiones de financiación e inversión y que, por tanto, presentan un poder de transformación significativo en la economía real, vinculado a modificaciones en la canalización de flujos de capital hacia actividades, sectores y empresas determinadas.
Las más de 100 entidades que conforman Spainsif tienen un carácter diverso y comprenden a la industria financiera (entidades bancarias, aseguradoras y gestoras de fondos de inversión), proveedores de servicios (servicios de datos, calificaciones, investigación, consultoría, instituciones académicas), entidades sin ánimo de lucro y sindicatos mayoritarios.
