Lisbon, June 1, 2025 – The European project ALERT-PFAS took part in a special event held at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento to celebrate International Children’s Day, as part of the initiative “Químicos ao Quadrado” (“Chemists Squared”).
Under the theme “Each in their element,” the day highlighted how chemistry is present in every aspect of our lives. ALERT-PFAS contributed to the section focused on fluorine.
During the event, the project team offered various hands-on science and educational activities aimed at sparking curiosity and critical thinking in children about the role of chemistry in our environment:
- Interactive storytelling, introducing children to the concept of emerging contaminants in a simple and engaging way.
- An educational game on the periodic table, with a focus on fluorine and its connection to PFAS.
- Participatory science games, encouraging reflection on the environmental impact of chemical substances.
This activity is part of ALERT-PFAS’s broader outreach mission to promote early scientific education and raise environmental awareness through accessible and innovative tools.
The ALERT-PFAS team would like to thank the Pavilhão do Conhecimento for the opportunity to take part in this vibrant knowledge celebration, bringing science closer to the next generation.
