On 3 December, CETIM Technological Centre hosted the seminar “From Forest to Packaging: Agroforestry Biomass for Sustainable Packaging”, a technical event organised within the European project NEWPOWER – Interreg Sudoe, aimed at presenting progress in agroforestry biomass valorisation and the development of new biomaterials for sustainable packaging.
The session brought together professionals from technology centres, industry and research institutions. Presentations covered advances in integral valorisation of agricultural and forestry residues, scalable multiproduct biorefinery technologies, high-value biomaterials, and key European funding opportunities in the field of bioeconomy.
Speakers included Mohamed Traoré (CETIM), Lisandra Cristina de Castro Alves (Ence – Energía y Celulosa) and Santiago García (CETIM), who addressed scientific progress within NEWPOWER, the role of cellulose as a renewable resource, and relevant EU funding instruments.
The seminar concluded with a roundtable moderated by Vanesa López (CETIM), focusing on the industrial potential of agroforestry resources and their role in transitioning towards more circular production models.
NEWPOWER and CETIM thank all speakers and participants, whose contributions reinforce scientific and technological transfer and support the development of solutions that enable research to generate real impact within the Sudoe region’s bioeconomy.
