Clermont to host international workshop on PFAS contamination risks in Southwestern Europe

On Thursday, June 26, the Université Clermont Auvergne will host an international technical workshop as part of the European project Interreg SUDOE ALERT-PFAS. The event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Pôle administratif des Cézeaux (1, place Vasarely, 63178 Aubière Cedex, France), bringing together key actors in water management, environmental protection, and emergency response.

Under the theme “Understanding and Acting on Emerging Contaminants,” the workshop will focus on the risks posed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to natural ecosystems in Southwestern Europe, particularly in areas affected by wildfires.

The programme includes:

  • A presentation of the ALERT-PFAS project and the current state of knowledge on PFAS in the SUDOE region (Spain, France, Portugal);

  • Open discussions and technical exchanges with participants;

  • Networking opportunities with an international community committed to sustainable solutions.

This event is aimed at water managers and operators, environmental authorities, emergency and civil protection services, protected area managers, researchers, and public administration representatives interested in innovative tools to assess, prevent and mitigate PFAS-related risks.
