CITIC brings bioinformatics and drug repurposing closer to young people at G-Night

The Centre for Information and Communication Technologies Research (CITIC) at the University of A Coruña, together with members of the RePo-SUDOE project, took part on Friday, 26 September, in the Galician Researchers’ Night – G-Night, with an activity held at the National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT).

As part of the collective workshop Explore Science and Technology!, a representative of the RePo-SUDOE project introduced a group of children aged 9 to 14 to the fundamentals of bioinformatics and its role in drug repurposing, a strategic line of this European initiative.

During the session, participants used a virtual reality application developed within the framework of the project, which allows the simulation of molecular docking processes between target proteins and inhibitory compounds. The activity provided a practical demonstration of how digital technologies can be applied to biomedical research.

CITIC’s participation in G-Night reinforces its commitment to scientific outreach and to bringing research in science, computing, and health closer to society, with special attention to younger generations.
