The ThermEcoWat project highlights the importance of studying thermal ecosystems and their vulnerability to climate change from a multidisciplinary perspective.
From June 2 to 6, the 1st Geothermal Research and Innovation Network of Portugal and Spain (Geo-RIN) Conference, was held in Benasque, Spain. Geo-RIN aims to put in contact different stakeholders of the geothermal sector of the Iberian countries.
A poster focusing on the protection of hydromineral and geothermal resources based on a preliminary approach to geophysical prospecting in the S. Pedro do Sul pilot of the ThermEcoWat project was presented by LNEG and the Portuguese GT1 team of the ThermEcoWat project.
The poster addressed the protection of the hydromineral and geothermal resource of S. Pedro do Sul was addressed within the scope of the ThermEcoWat project with the reprocessing of legacy geophysical prospecting surveys of electrical resistivity, gamma radiation spectrometry and gravimetry carried out in the 1990s and the acquisition of new geophysical data of gamma radiation spectrometry, gravimetry and reflection seismic profiles located where the conductive fault of the thermomineral fluid is expected to be located.
This scientific approach is of great importance for the protection of the resource, as the data, studied together with hydrochemistry to be carried out within the scope of the project, may indicate a distinct recharge zone of the system from the accepted zone. The latter zone served as the basis for the delimitation of the extended protection zone of the resource.
Increasing scientific knowledge to protect the resource is the motto!!
