The use of reclaimed water in agriculture to be discussed at a workshop at the Bragança Instituto Politécnico

Workshop "Agricultura e Alimentação" en el que participa I-ReWater

The reuse of urban water in agriculture was one of the topics of discussion during the workshop ‘Agricultura e Alimentação’, which was held on Wednesday, 21 May at the EsACT Auditorium (Mirandela, Portugal). The forum was part of the Ano da Água 2025 programme, promoted by the Laboratório Associado para a Sustentabilidade e Tecnologia em Regiões de Montanha (LA – SusTEC) of the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, a partner of I-ReWater.

During the conference, Javier J. Cancela, coordinator of the I-ReWater project and professor at the Campus Terra of the University of Santiago de Compostela, spoke about the role played by the use of reclaimed urban water in agriculture in northwest Portugal.

The programme also featured José Silvestre, researcher at the Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (INIAV, IP), who spoke about precision technology for deficit irrigation in vineyards and olive trees.

Four pilots in Portugal

Portugal is one of the four partner countries of I-ReWater’s applied research, in which it participates with four pilots to study the impact of the use of reclaimed water in olive, almond and vineyard crops.
