On 31 October, the European project GestEaur–Interreg SUDOE held a technical workshop in the natural setting of the El Oso Lagoons (Ávila)—a unique environment that served as an ideal meeting point to reflect on the future of water management in rural areas.
Supporting the management of water quality and quantity in the municipalities of La Moraña through the GestEAUr project, led by CIDTA and the Consolidated Research Unit IGA at the University of Salamanca.
The event brought together representatives from the Provincial Council of Ávila, the Bajo Tormes Interpretation Centre, the Tormes-EB Foundation, the El Oso Steppe Lagoons, students from the Polytechnic School of Ávila, as well as the mayors of El Oso, Tiñosillos, Navaluenga, Palacios Rubios, Nava de Arévalo, El Bohodón and Altas Torres, among other municipalities committed to sustainable water management.
Five speakers from CIDTA–IGA–USAL and Aqualia took part in the session, presenting project advances and addressing current challenges related to water management in the region. Their contributions provided technical, scientific and operational perspectives, enriching the discussion on water quality, availability and sustainability in the municipalities of La Moraña:
- José Luis Molina González (CIDTA–IGA–USAL)
- Juan Carlos García Prieto (CIDTA–IGA–USAL)
- Santiago Zazo del Dedo (CIDTA–IGA–USAL)
- Ángel Encinas Bogeat (AQUALIA)
- Víctor Monsalvo García (AQUALIA)
Their presentations shared results, technological proposals and strategic insights on improving water quality and ensuring sustainable resource management in rural communities.
The workshop also included a technical visit to Aqualia’s pilot drinking water treatment plant in Tiñosillos, where participants observed the operation of an innovative reverse osmosis technology for nitrate removal—a key solution for improving water quality in small rural populations.
The day was marked by collaboration, knowledge exchange and environmental commitment, concluding with the shared satisfaction of continuing to work together toward a greener, more sustainable and more resilient future. 🌿💧
