The Universitat de Lleida (UdL) took an active part in the Fira Agrobiotech UdL – Agrobiotech Innovation Forum 2025, with two complementary activities focused on knowledge transfer and the dissemination of bioeconomy innovation, within the framework of the European project NEWPOWER, co-financed by the Interreg Sudoe Programme – FEDER.
Round table: Technology transfer to companies in the field of Bioeconomy from the UdL
On Tuesday, 25 November, the UdL organised a round table that brought together university researchers and representatives from the agri-food sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities of university–industry collaboration.
The discussion addressed topics such as the role of research centres in developing technological solutions for the productive sector, the need to improve connections between academia and business, and the importance of turning scientific knowledge into tangible innovation that benefits society.
Speakers highlighted the value of pilot plant testing, the need to align timing and language between academic and industrial environments, and the importance of advancing towards a more collaborative, cross-cutting and transferable innovation model.

NEWPOWER stand: bringing science closer to the public
On Thursday, 27 November, the UdL presented the NEWPOWER project at the university’s institutional stand, bringing science closer to visitors in a tangible way.
The team displayed real samples of biomasses and extracts, the pulsed electric field chamber used in its research, and a demonstrative final product: an isotonic drink for athletes made from grape pomace extract.
Visitors were able to see, touch and smell the different stages of the process — from biomass to the final product — and learn how pulsed electric field technology enables the valorisation of agroforestry by-products into sustainable, high-value solutions.

These activities, carried out under the NEWPOWER project, reflect the Universitat de Lleida’s (UdL) commitment to technology transfer, sustainable innovation and collaboration between academia, industry and society, contributing to strengthening the circular economy and bioeconomy in the agri-food sector across the SUDOE region.
