The RePo-SUDOE project introduced drug repurposing to students at IES Montevil through an outreach talk aimed at second-year high school students enrolled in the Health Sciences track.
The session was delivered by CITIC staff at the University of A Coruña and sought to explain the concept of drug repurposing, highlighting its relevance as a strategy to accelerate the development of medical treatments based on existing medicines.
During the talk, the role of bioinformatics in this process was presented, with a focus on biomedical data analysis and the use of advanced digital tools. Several solutions developed within the RePo-SUDOE framework were also showcased, including the educational platforms Repo-Edu and Repo-VRE, as well as a virtual reality application that allowed students to explore different aspects of drug repurposing in an immersive way.
This initiative is part of RePo-SUDOE’s dissemination and awareness-raising activities, aimed at promoting knowledge about drug repurposing among non-specialist audiences and fostering interest in biomedical research and digital technologies from early educational stages.
