From September 24th to 26th, 2025, Barcelona hosted the fourth edition of RExPO25, one of the leading international forums on drug repurposing. The event brought together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, industry representatives, and patients, addressing topics such as network medicine and pharmacology, precision diagnostics, artificial intelligence, large language models, and the European Health Data Space.
In this context, the RePo-SUDOE project presented three scientific contributions that reinforce the role of the SUDOE region (Spain, Portugal, and France) in translational research and drug repurposing:
- Ana Álvarez: focused on drug repurposing in oncology, identifying the YAP/TAZ-TEAD complex as a priority target and developing standardized biophysical protocols (SPR and BLI) that enable reproducible results. Read full abstract.
- Hugo Filipe: presented the creation of a translational network for the SUDOE region, aiming to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and introduce immersive 3D and virtual/augmented reality visualization tools to explore drug-target interactions. Read full abstract.
- João Joaquim: highlighted the integration of public health and scientific literacy through workshops, summer schools, educational materials, and policy briefs, bringing innovation in drug repurposing closer to professionals, policymakers, and the public. Read full abstract.
RePo-SUDOE’s participation in RExPO25 confirms its commitment to biomedical innovation, open knowledge creation, and transnational collaboration, strengthening the position of southwestern Europe as a European reference in drug repurposing.
