The meeting, organised by Fundació Solidaritat UB, provided an opportunity to analyse in detail the progress of the three working groups and assess the deployment status of the demonstrators in France, Portugal and Spain.

The approach to the training and outreach sessions planned in the three pilot territories was also discussed, with the aim of presenting the operation and objectives of the solutions developed.

Representatives of the ten organisations involved in the SOLLAGUA research project met in Barcelona on 17, 18 and 19 March for their fifth in-person consortium meeting, at a key moment as the initiative enters its final year of implementation.

The meeting, organised by Fundació Solidaritat UB, made it possible to review in detail the progress of the three working groups, examine the main milestones ahead and anticipate potential challenges related to their implementation. The agenda was structured around two main working blocks.

During the first part of the meeting, the conclusions of Deliverable 2.2, Strategy for the deployment of living labs focused on sustainable water management, and Deliverable 3.1.1, Strategic report on the long-term deployment of nature-based solutions (NBS), both recently published, were presented. The deployment status of the demonstrators to be implemented in Cheles (Extremadura, Spain), Zambujeira (Beja, Portugal) and Caumont (Occitanie, France), which are expected to become operational in the coming months, was also reviewed.

In this context, the partners discussed the approach to the training and outreach sessions to be held in the three pilot territories, with the aim of explaining on site the operation and scope of the technologies developed, thereby facilitating their understanding among local and regional stakeholders.

Another aspect examined in detail was the future digital matchmaking platform, designed to facilitate connections between providers of innovative solutions and organisations interested in improving sustainable water management.

In terms of communication and dissemination, the consortium agreed to strengthen the search for synergies with other related projects, both within and beyond the SUDOE area, in order to broaden the impact of the results achieved.

The meeting also included the participation of the associated partners Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Lisboa E-NOVA, Área Metropolitana de Lisboa and Biyiud, as well as the Ukrainian association Lviv Agglomeration, which was specially invited to share experiences and explore possible avenues for international collaboration.

Cultural and technical visit

The agenda also included two complementary guided visits. On the one hand, a cultural visit to the historic building of the Universitat de Barcelona and its Great Hall; on the other, a technical visit to the wastewater treatment plants of Sabadell Riu Ripoll and Cànoves i Samalús, which provided first-hand insight into relevant experiences in water treatment and management in the area.
