RESILIENT VINES addresses the common challenge of adapting viticulture in the rural SUDOE territory to the effects of climate change, through agroecological and sustainable regenerative viticulture practices, and innovative solutions and technologies, in order to improve biodiversity in the SUDOE region and preserve natural heritage by reducing the use of phytosanitary products. The main objective of RESILIENT VINES is to validate and adapt the best regenerative viticulture practices to different soils and climates within the SUDOE territory, which dedicates more than 1.6 Mha to viticulture, to develop regional strategies and policies and transfer the results, through SUDOE Think Tanks and training activities. This way, the adoption by winegrowers and scientific and technological organizations of techniques adapted to the SUDOE territory will be promoted. The project’s pilot actions are designed to exploit transnational cooperation through the network of Living Labs, which will focus on the evaluation of functional biodiversity (arthropods, soil microbiology, useful flora and fauna), on the agroecological management of vineyards (cover crops) and on the incorporation of technologies to reduce the use of pesticides and irrigation water consumption. To this end, 6 pilot actions will be carried out in regions with representative climates (western maritime, continental, and Mediterranean) of the SUDOE, in Tarragona and the Balearic Islands (Mediterranean), Trás-os-Montes and Douro (continental) Denomination, and Cognac and Bordeaux (western maritime). The RESILIENT VINES consortium is made up of 10 entities (4 Spanish, 4 Portuguese, and 2 French) with a multi-actor approach, to develop and transfer the results to all actors in the wine value chain in the SUDOE territory, which will benefit from the project’s results. One of the most innovative aspects of RESILIENT VINES is the ecosystemic vision of the vineyard, implementing holistic management, the application of solutions and technologies for improving soil quality, the ecosystem, and the sustainability of production.
