Affected by territorial, social and economic imbalances, the rural areas of the SUDOE Space face the problems of depopulation, an aging population, and a lack of dynamism in the local economy. In this context, the RESPIRA project addresses the valorization of a territory through its identity heritage, as a means of territorial revitalization that allows for the generation of sustainable and perennial benefits for the territories (territorial attractiveness, development of the local economy, population retention, social cohesion/inclusion…). Its main objective is to promote and facilitate the valorization of the “territorial capital” of the territories that contribute to their uniqueness and identity (e.g., centennial olive trees, artisanal crafts, historical routes, local products and associated culinary practices, specific natural resources…) by applying and exploiting a transdisciplinary analysis of their patrimonial specificities, providing support and tools to Public Authorities, and strengthening heritage transmission mechanisms. To this end, the project will develop a 1) Strategy for the Valorization of Territorial Identity; a 2) Transnational Action Plan for its deployment at local or territorial level; 3) Heritage Schemes for the valorization of territories; 4) Training and Awareness Actions on Heritage Identity; and a 5) Pilot Action to experiment with the tools in the territories. The project will adopt Territorial Heritage from a triple perspective: Natural, Cultural, and Memorial. This Holistic approach will then be used in the heritage transmission systems developed by Public Authorities, and will allow for decompartmentalizing, diversifying, and increasing their potential for valorization and transmission, reaching a wider audience. The partnership is made up of 9 Partners (5 Public Authorities from France, Spain and Portugal; 3 Reference Centers in the field of Heritage; and 1 Association), and is complemented by the support of 18 Associates.
