Comprehensive development and implementation of new technologies, products and strategies to reduce the application of copper in vineyards and remediate contaminated soils in the SUDOE region

The reduction of copper represents a great challenge for European viticulture, since it had been used since the 19th century to fight pests such as mildew. It is therefore a strategic challenge recognized by European and international industry associations, national authorities, companies and research organizations.

The objective of COPPEREPLACE is to validate a series of integrated, innovative and viable solutions to reduce the use of copper and its environmental impact in SUDOE vineyards. These solutions will be transferable and durable, so that the wine sector complies with the new European law, promoting environmentally sustainable production.

Currently, there are no products on the market or effective strategies to replace the use of copper. COPPEREPLACE seeks to address this problem using an innovative approach based on 3 pillars: (1) Validation of Essential Enabling Technologies (KET) in biotechnology, using alternative products, smart and precision agriculture and soil management strategies (2) Implementation of sustainable and economically viable integrated crop management itineraries and (3) Creation of a knowledge network for the transfer of results and acceptance. These approaches will generate very practical solutions to favor their adoption
