What results do you hope to achieve with this project?
To obtain technical references on the impact of introducing nature-based solutions (e.g. plant cover) on the winegrowing system, or to try to characterise the effect of green infrastructure on the winegrowing system and its microclimate. The various trials carried out at the pilot sites complement each other and enable us to approach different dimensions: the plot or the farm.
What does it mean for the IFV to be leading part of an Interreg Sudoe project?
The IFV has a great deal of experience in managing European projects, and leading a strand presents an opportunity to work jointly with partners from other countries, to try to understand different situations and draw conclusions that can be reproduced and transferred. The aim is also to create a working dynamic within the group, so that everyone can share their technical results and learn from the expertise of others.
Why do you think international cooperation is essential in an initiative like ECOSPHEREWINES?
All three of our countries are facing climate change, with rising temperatures and less rainfall. The search for nature-based solutions to improve the resilience of our systems is essential, and their implementation will only be possible through cooperation.
What is IFV’s technical contribution to ECOSPHEREWINES?
IFV coordinates the French pilot and is responsible for an experimental site. Various actions are being carried out on this site:
- Studying the effect of the green infrastructure network on the micro-climate of the plot and the farm
- Measuring carbon storage according to soil maintenance methods (permanent or temporary grassing, tillage or chemical weeding)
- A biodiversity analysis of the experimental site to assess the quality of habitats for fauna and flora.
Looking to the future, what does taking part in this project mean to you?
For me, taking part in this project means laying the foundations for taking greater account of biodiversity and the landscape environment in vineyard decision-making.
