SOLLAGUA project holds its second consortium meeting in Lisbon

SOLLAGUA reunión Lisboa

The meeting was organised by the Portuguese partners Técnico Lisboa and Águas do Tejo Atlântico on 20 and 21 June 2024 at the Fábrica de Água de Alcântara (Lisbon).

SOLLAGUA, a three-year initiative co-funded by the Interreg SUDOE 2021-2027 regional development programme that explores nature-based solutions (NBS) for water reuse in rural areas, held its second consortium meeting in Lisbon on 20-21 June 2024. The meeting was organised by the Portuguese partners Técnico Lisboa and Águas do Tejo Atlântico at the Fábrica de Água de Alcântara (Lisbon) and brought together representatives of the ten beneficiaries of the initiative, as well as some associated partners.

The first day was mainly devoted to assessing the status of the project, which is mandatory for all face-to-face meetings of collaborative initiatives. Each of the partners presented an update on their respective work packages, highlighting the most notable achievements and challenges encountered since the kick-off meeting held in January in Toulouse (France). This sharing allowed for an initial collage to be built upon for the remainder of the meeting. Another important topic on the agenda of this first day was the need to involve more and better the partner organisations, 26 in total, from France, Portugal and Spain. Magali Gerino, researcher at the Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, the coordinating entity of SOLLAGUA, underlined that their participation is essential to “broaden the scope of the project at all levels.”

On the second day, the consortium focused its discussions on the beneficiaries’ obligations in terms of administrative and financial management and on the communication and dissemination strategy, which is due to be delivered in mid-September. Interreg SUDOE, through the joint secretariat, made it clear from the official signing of the project that this aspect must be at the heart of each work package in order to raise awareness of SOLLAGUA’s priorities and the importance of this type of European programme for building a greener and more cohesive future. Towards the end, the partners had the opportunity to enjoy an impressive experience: a guided visit (underground!) to the Fábrica de Água de Alcântara wastewater treatment plant (Lisbon). What a refreshing culmination!
