Re-naturalization of school buildings, courtyards and paths for Climate Change Adaptation

Descripción

The COL3NATUR project addresses the common challenge of contributing to climate change adaptation (CC) and resilience through the re-naturalization of school buildings, courtyards, and paths. The SUDOE region faces extreme climatic conditions of temperatures and heat waves, along with other impacts derived from fires or torrential rains, which means that the incorporation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) has a proven beneficial impact. However, their implementation is not being carried out with the necessary speed, robustness, and efficiency, due to climatic severity and the lack of adequate tools. The main objective seeks to strengthen and accelerate transnational development and cooperation strategies among the involved actors (authorities, academics, and businesses, and associated partners), to demonstrate the efficiency of naturalizing school buildings, courtyards, and paths, both rural and urban, with different population densities and urban development, supported by digital tools and demonstrative pilots that accelerate re-naturalization. The project will demonstrate the efficiency of NBS throughout the SUDOE through: 1 pilot action with 15 school courtyards (with works in 3), 1 pilot action with 6 path networks (with specific works in 3). Finally, the development of multidisciplinary and transnational courses is proposed to promote the industrialization of constructive elements with NBS among current and future actors. All proposed actions will contribute to the strategies and plans of the competent and educational authorities related to fostering the incorporation of NBS in schools. Transnational cooperation will ensure the efficiency of the climate approach. The innovative aspect lies in the incorporation of NBS at all 3 levels of educational environments with digital and demonstrative methodologies, and in industrialization as a driving force for greater and better adaptation to CC. The direct beneficiaries of the project are the partners collaborating transnationally and the associated partners, the educational community, the competent authorities, and society as a whole.
