DeCoWaste aims to improve the management of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) generated in the SUDOE territory by construction sector SMEs, especially in minor works, and to achieve the objectives of the EU Waste Framework Directive, which establishes revaluing 70% of CDW. Among the main difficulties in achieving this objective is the management of CDW from small-scale works, often carried out by SMEs, as they do not always include the costs of an authorized manager in their budgets, unlike large companies, nor can they access Eco-parks like homeowners carrying out renovations. This leads to SMEs not always complying with their obligations regarding the correct CDW management. Furthermore, local administrations, especially in small and medium-sized municipalities, lack resources for monitoring compliance with legislation which, together with bad social habits, leads to illegal dumping. The construction sector consumes a large amount of resources while being a major generator of CDW, it is crucial to move towards a circular economy, avoiding pollution and promoting responsible resource use. DeCoWaste will provide public authorities with tools to improve CDW recovery and revaluation through transnational collaboration. Three solutions will be tested: 1 to improve CDW collection (ES and PT), 1 to improve CDW treatment (FR), and 1 for revaluation (ES). The results will be used to develop a strategy for the recovery and revaluation of CDW in the SUDOE area. Subsequently, 2 action plans will be developed for different territories to adopt solutions. All this will be carried out through an innovative approach, which includes public-private collaboration to improve waste management in construction SMEs. DeCoWaste is fully aligned with the New European Bauhaus, promoting the creation of beautiful urban spaces with sustainable materials by revaluing the ceramic fraction of CDW for urban furniture.
