The European project GestEAUr is making progress in Ávila with an innovative approach: controlled aquifer recharge combined with the use of artificial intelligence to predict future water quality. Research activities are being carried out in the aquifer recharge zone of Fontiveros (Ávila), where the scientific team is conducting field measurements, sampling, and modelling to better understand how to sustainably recover these underground water resources.
In addition, the project is developing digital tools based on artificial intelligence that will help anticipate changes in water quality. These advances aim not only to secure safe water supply for the local population but also to promote a more sustainable and efficient management of groundwater resources.
Alongside the scientific work, GestEAUr partners are holding coordination meetings and local workshops involving institutional stakeholders and water management experts. These sessions also serve to identify technical, legal, and social challenges for the wider application of these technologies in other regions of the SUDOE area.
This recent progress of the GestEAUr project was reported by the newspaper El Mundo de Castilla y León in its edition of 16 September 2025.
