AgroSOL holds its first in-person working meeting in Burgos

Agrosol

The AgroSOL project held its first in-person meeting this week, bringing together in Burgos all Spanish, French, and Portuguese partners to advance the deployment of the agrivoltaic model that will strengthen the resilience of rural areas in the SUDOE region.

During the two working days, the partners were able to discuss the project’s first steps and coordinate the launch of the five agrivoltaic pilots that will be developed in Spain, France, and Portugal.

Throughout the meeting, methodological and technical progress was also reviewed, and cooperation among the participating entities was reinforced — a key element to ensuring the success of this transnational initiative funded by the Interreg SUDOE programme.

The five pilots that make up AgroSOL are:

– Pilot 1 – Navarra (Spain): Led by Consorcio EDER together with UPNA and UBU, focused on intensive woody crops.
– Pilot 2 – Alentejo (Portugal): Developed by the University of Évora and ADENE, focused on crop rotation and photovoltaic greenhouses.
– Pilot 3 – Nouvelle-Aquitaine (France): Implemented by ESTIA and GLHD, with trials in horticulture, cereals, and legumes adapted to family farming.
– Pilot 4 – Castilla y León (Spain): Coordinated by ITAGRA with the support of EREN, UPNA, and UBU, addressing agrivoltaics applied to mushroom production and aromatic plants.
– Pilot 5 – Extremadura (Spain): Led by CICYTEX, focused on the impact of solar panels on winter cereals.

This is a project funded by the Interreg SUDOE Programme, with a total budget of 2.24 million euros and 75% co-funded by the ERDF.

The meeting in Burgos marks a key step in consolidating transnational cooperation and advancing towards a common agrivoltaic model adapted to small and medium-sized farms in the SUDOE territory.
