More than 80 elderly people from Ribera Navarra participated in the workshop to promote active and healthy ageing, organized as part of the European PreDisc project, with the objective of bringing health promotion closer to the territory and promoting more active and healthier aging. The meeting, which was held at the San Francisco de Asis Residence in Cintruénigo, counted on the presence of the regional health minister, Fernando Dominguez, who closed the day by highlighting the importance of bringing prevention closer to rural areas.

“We came to talk about aging and, above all, how to achieve healthier aging. Without losing the quality of health care that will always be there for all of you, it is essential that everyone be trained in a minimum of self-care, autonomy and well-being that we can apply in our lives, in everyday life, and in that of the elderly people we have around,” said Fernando Domínguez.

The activity was organized in collaboration with the Health Centers of Cintruénigo and Fitero, and aimed to bring health promotion directly to the territory, promoting healthy habits adapted to the daily environment of elderly people, prevent frailty and help them take care of their own health.

Institutional and local collaboration

The event benefited from the collaboration of the Service Navarro de Santé – Osasunbidea (SNS-O), the municipalities and health centers of Cintruénigo and Fitero, the Cintruénigo-Fitero Social Services Consortium, the Alhama Association, the Retiree’s Home of Cintruénigo and the Residence San Francisco de Asis.

Institutional and local representatives, the mayors of Cintruénigo and Fitero, the manager of the Health Area of Tudela, Ana Campillo, and part of the primary care management and responsible for health centers and clinics in the area, also participated. They emphasized the importance of promoting community-based initiatives that promote the autonomy and well-being of rural seniors.
With initiatives like this event in the Ribera navarra, PreDisc puts older people at the center, giving them a leading role in their own health, encouraging their empowerment and strengthening close, equitable and personalized attention in rural areas.
