Location of the Pilot Site
This action takes place in the province of Soria, one of the areas most affected by depopulation and the abandonment of forested lands in Spain. The action is led by the Forest Association of Soria (ASFOSO).
Description of Planned Actions
The pilot focuses on social innovation to reactivate the management of abandoned forests, combining community engagement with advanced technological tools. Through a digital marketing strategy, the aim is to reconnect absentee forest owners with their property, encouraging them to engage in adaptive management. The initiative relies on remote sensing techniques and management support tools to visually display the condition of the forests and the risks associated with their lack of management.
Expected Results and Applications
The outcome will be a guide summarising the conclusions and lessons learned from this experience, which will be presented to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge and shared with several autonomous regions particularly affected by forest abandonment. The pilot aims to become a replicable model to promote co-responsibility among owners and improve sustainable forest management in rural areas at risk of depopulation.
