The pilot experience developed by the Intermunicipal Community of Viseu Dão Lafões focuses on enhancing the Queijo Serra da Estrela (PDO), one of the most emblematic agri-food products of Central Portugal. Through this initiative, CIM Viseu Dão Lafões aims to position itself as a leading destination for agrotourism experiences, highlighting local products and their strong connection with the territory, tradition and cultural identity.
The experience, called “Viseu Dão Lafões Cheese Experience”, offers a tourism and emotional narrative centred on the Queijo Serra da Estrela, a product that embodies centuries of pastoral tradition and local know-how. The project is structured as a network of experiences, involving a wide range of local stakeholders, including cheese producers, farms, hotels and restaurants.
Within this network, different types of experiences are being developed, such as farm visits, tastings, shepherding activities, production workshops and thematic menus. This model allows visitors to enjoy a personalised experience, with greater flexibility and freedom to choose activities, strengthening their connection with the product, the territory and local communities.
