Offering a perspective on the conservation of the north-western forests in the face of the climate change challenge was the central theme of the technical conference held this Tuesday, organised by the Chair of Environment, Water and Energy UCAM–Grupo Hozono Global, in which the SocialForest project, part of the Interreg Sudoe programme, was present. It did so through the two pilot actions that the CARM, coordinating partner of the project, is developing in two forest areas of Murcia (Cehegín and Moratalla). During the meeting, the challenges of forest management and the opportunities arising within the framework of a sustainable economy were addressed.
Under the title ‘Forest management: the conservation of the north-western forests in the face of the climate change challenge’, the conference brought together representatives from the public administration, professionals from the sector, and forest landowners. On behalf of the CARM, the Regional Secretary for Energy, Sustainability and Climate Action of the Ministry of Environment, Universities, Research and the Mar Menor, María Cruz Ferreira Costa, opened the event, and the forest engineer from the Directorate-General for Natural Heritage of the CARM, Ana María Atienza Pérez, presented the pilot actions being developed in Murcia through the SocialForest project.
During the meeting, key aspects related to the conservation of forest areas were addressed, with particular attention to forest adaptation to new environmental conditions. Likewise, different perspectives on forest management were analysed, including cooperation between public administrations and private entities, the role of forest owners, and the application of technical and scientific innovations in this field.
The event aimed to provide an up-to-date and rigorous overview of the sector’s challenges, promoting reflection and the exchange of knowledge among professionals, technicians and interested audiences. In this way, it contributes to improving understanding of existing challenges and disseminating good practices aimed at the conservation and responsible management of forest resources.
