The European Commission includes the European SharedH2-SUDOE project and its commitment to green hydrogen and energy communities in its Green Week

The European Commission has included the SharedH2-SUDOE project in European Green Week 2026. The project is led by the Technological Institute of Castile and León, with the CTP as an associated partner.

In this context, the project will hold several online seminars over the coming weeks to bring the use of green hydrogen and energy communities closer to the SUDOE territory, which covers France, Portugal and Spain.

The aim is to present the progress made by the initiative, introduce its simulation platform and share the pilot cases being developed in different strategic locations.

The inclusion of SharedH2-SUDOE in European Green Week represents an important endorsement of the initiative and strengthens the role of European territorial cooperation in the search for innovative solutions to energy and climate challenges.

European Green Week is an initiative of the European Commission that recognises and gives visibility to events aimed at promoting the transition towards more sustainable, resilient and environmentally friendly models.

In this context, the SharedH2-SUDOE webinars will help bring the potential of renewable hydrogen closer to the public as an energy storage tool, especially in self-consumption communities and rural areas.

Upcoming seminars

The first event will take place on 29 May, from 10:00 to 11:00, in Portuguese, with the participation of Enerdaura, ITCL and the Areanatejo Energy Agency, which will present the pilot case developed in Portugal.

On 3 June, from 16:00 to 17:00, a new seminar will be held in French. This session will present the SharedH2-SUDOE project, the simulation platform developed by ITCL and the pilot case of a hydrogen refuelling station for bicycles, presented by the ESTIA School of Engineering.

On 4 June, from 10:00 to 11:00, the seminar in Spanish will take place, with the participation of the University of Salamanca, ITCL and Bembibre Town Council, which will present the pilot case of the Bembibre energy community.

On 12 June, from 10:00 to 11:00, another seminar will be held in Portuguese, with the participation of Enerdaura, ITCL and the Areanatejo Energy Agency.

Lastly, on Tuesday 16 June, from 10:00 to 11:00, a new session will be held in French, with the participation of ASSELDOR and the Technological Institute of Castile and León, which will present a simulation platform for harnessing energy surpluses in energy and hydrogen communities.

In addition, the pilot case of an agricultural holding will be presented.

Through these seminars, SharedH2-SUDOE continues to make progress towards its goal of promoting innovative energy solutions through transnational cooperation, strengthening the role of the SUDOE territory as a space for experimentation and knowledge transfer around renewable hydrogen.

About the project

The SharedH2-SUDOE project seeks to consolidate renewable hydrogen as a viable solution for energy storage in self-consumption communities, especially in rural areas.

To this end, the initiative is working on the development of technical and scientific knowledge, as well as on the implementation of innovative solutions that will enable green hydrogen to be integrated into local energy communities.

Furthermore, the project’s pilots are designed to integrate into their surroundings, minimising their impact on existing habitats.

By promoting renewable energies and storage systems based on green hydrogen, SharedH2-SUDOE contributes to progress towards more sustainable energy systems.
