Fifth in-person meeting of the AN‑GEL Sudoe consortium in Lleida

Reunión Lleida An-Gel

The European project AN‑GEL Sudoe held its fifth in-person meeting on May 19 and 20, 2026, at the IRTA facilities in Lleida. The meeting provided an opportunity to share progress, strengthen coordination among partners, and jointly analyze the main challenges facing the agricultural sector in the Sudoe area.

Over the two days, the program focused on strategic issues such as the impact of climate change on agricultural production and the need to promote sustainable solutions to protect crops from extreme events, particularly spring frosts. The sessions combined technical presentations with practical activities aimed at exchanging experiences.

On the afternoon of May 19, the partners visited the General Irrigation Community of the Canals of Urgell to learn about its management model and its impact on the territory. The day continued at IRTA’s experimental plot in Mollerussa, a key site for the development of innovative solutions in precision agriculture and water efficiency.

Several trials were presented there, opening up new opportunities for collaboration in tackling late spring frosts, such as the trial based on testing different micro-sprinkler systems installed on a plot planted with different pear varieties, and the trial based on energy balance calculations implemented in an apple orchard under netting.

The second day was devoted to presenting the progress of work in areas such as high-precision thermal mapping, pilot trials for tackling spring frosts across the partners’ territories, continuous monitoring systems, and the early warning system for frost events.

The meeting also included a dedicated session on project management and communication, strengthening internal coordination and the dissemination of results. With this meeting, AN‑GEL Sudoe reaffirms its commitment to innovative, sustainable, and resilient agriculture.
