The Interreg Sudoe ALIS Project Holds Its Second Social Innovation Pilot for Young People in Rural Areas in Málaga

The immersive experience will take place from 24 to 26 June in Sierra de las Nieves National Park and will bring together young people, mentors, and experts in adventure activities and territorial development.

Málaga, June 2026. The European project Interreg Sudoe ALIS – Local Adventure for Social Innovation, co-financed by the Interreg Sudoe Programme, will hold its second pilot experience from 24 to 26 June 2026 in Sierra de las Nieves National Park (Málaga). The immersive initiative is designed to foster youth participation, social innovation, and stronger connections with rural territories.

The initiative will bring together 14 young participants, accompanied by five specialized Adventure Therapy mentors and four adventure activity instructors, under the coordination of the Regional Government of Andalusia through the Andalusian Youth Institute, in a natural setting of outstanding ecological and cultural value. The pilot is being carried out in collaboration with the Sierra de las Nieves Association of Municipalities, an organization committed to sustainable development and territorial revitalization.

Over the course of three days, participants will engage in a programme of activities aimed at strengthening personal, social, and leadership skills through experiential learning and direct contact with the rural environment. Planned activities include interpretive hiking, local ethnography experiences, via ferrata routes, and a visit to a unique cave, providing participants with the opportunity to discover the natural and cultural heritage of Sierra de las Nieves through an innovative and participatory approach.

This second pilot forms part of ALIS’s strategy to promote new social innovation methodologies aimed at young people, particularly in rural areas facing demographic, economic, and territorial challenges. Through immersive experiences, the project seeks to encourage young people’s sense of belonging, strengthen their connection with the territory, and foster their involvement in developing solutions for the sustainable growth of rural communities.

ALIS brings together organizations from Spain, France, and Portugal with the objective of exchanging best practices and developing innovative tools that contribute to the revitalization of rural territories across the Sudoe area. The pilot experiences are among the project’s main actions, enabling the testing of participatory methodologies in real-life settings and generating knowledge that can be transferred to other European regions.

The organization of this second pilot in Sierra de las Nieves reinforces the project’s commitment to promoting natural and cultural resources as drivers of social innovation, territorial cohesion, and opportunities for future generations.
