On 1 July 2025, our partner ACMG (Association Climatologique de la Moyenne Garonne et du Sud-Ouest) took part, alongside the AOC Cahors, in a meeting with winegrowers to present some of the latest developments from the An-Gel Sudoe project on the study and prevention of frost risk.
During the event, the results obtained from the thermal observation flight carried out on the morning of 27 March 2025 were shared. Conducted within the framework of the project, this activity made it possible to analyse vineyard behaviour during a frost event. The thermal images collected enabled researchers to study temperature differences between plots and gain a better understanding of the factors influencing their vulnerability to frost.
The analyses showed that factors such as soil type, soil management (compacted or aerated soils) and soil moisture content can significantly influence the temperatures recorded. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms behind frost damage and provide valuable information for assessing the effectiveness of different frost protection strategies.
The event also provided an opportunity for exchange between researchers, technicians and wine professionals, fostering dialogue between the scientific results generated by An-Gel Sudoe and the practical experience of winegrowers.
This type of knowledge-transfer activity is essential to achieving one of the project’s main objectives: developing knowledge and tools that help the agricultural sector adapt to the growing challenges associated with climate change.
We would like to thank ACMG, AOC Cahors and all participating winegrowers for their involvement and contribution to this valuable exchange of knowledge and experience.
