As part of the e‑Rigation project, each partner plays a key role in developing innovative solutions for more efficient water management in agriculture. In this context, we would like to highlight the contribution of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (CDA64), an organization actively involved in water management within its territory and in the search for more resilient agricultural practices.
A Key Player in Agricultural Water Management
CDA64 plays an active role in irrigation management within its territory, particularly through the development of water allocation plans and the planning of water use. It also supports irrigators in implementing investment projects for hydraulic infrastructure and provides technical assistance to promote the efficient and sustainable use of water resources.
Within the e‑Rigation project, CDA64 serves as a pilot area, contributing a unique agroclimatic context shaped by the influence of both the Pyrenees Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. This contribution will help strengthen the applicability of the project’s solutions in regions with similar characteristics.
As part of the project, the organization contributes to the improvement of water management tools and their validation through field trials conducted under real farming conditions in both arable crops and viticulture. It is also involved in farmer training, evaluation of results, and the transfer of solutions to the agricultural sector and public decision-makers.
Expertise Serving the Agricultural Sector
CDA64 has extensive experience in agricultural advisory services, based on the use of meteorological data, decision-support tools, and the monitoring of reference plots. In arable farming, CDA64 addresses farmers’ needs by distributing weekly technical bulletins to 1,500 irrigators, providing practical advice and technical references. This support aims to help farmers optimize their irrigation systems and improve their efficiency.
In a context increasingly affected by climate change and more frequent episodes of water stress, such as those experienced in 2022 and 2025, CDA64 supports the development of solutions designed to optimize water use and strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector.
In viticulture, following the same approach, a Plant Health Bulletin is distributed weekly to 2,500 winegrowers, providing updates on the health status of vineyards and helping growers make informed management decisions.
