From 12 to 17 October, the I-ReWater Proyecto Interreg Sudoe project took part in the 26th International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) International Congress, one of the leading international events on irrigation, water management and agriculture.

Part of the team travelled to Marseille (France) to share results and experiences related to the use of reclaimed water in agriculture and learn about the latest international advances in tackling challenges such as water scarcity and climate change adaptation.

The team members attending included Javier J. Cancela, from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela and coordinator of I-ReWater; Juan Antonio Rodríguez Díaz, Emilio Caamacho and Ignacio Gómez, from the Universidad de Córdoba; and Anne-Laure Collard, from INRAE.

During the congress, UCO and USC presented several results from our project on water reuse policies and the nutritional impact of irrigation with reclaimed water on hop crops, while INRAE presented a study on treated wastewater reuse, territory and agriculture in France. Juan Antonio Rodríguez, Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the Universidad de Córdoba, also played a prominent role as General Reporter for one of the congress’s major scientific questions: the potential of non-conventional water resources, including water reuse, to reduce pressure on available resources. More information here.

These are the papers presented by the I-ReWater team at the 26th ICID International Congress:

Institutional representation
The event also featured significant institutional representation from Spain, including Begoña García Bernal, Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food; Cristina Clemente, from MAPA, Vice-President of ICID and President of the Spanish National Committee of ICID; and José María González, Vice-President of CEICID and President of the Spanish Association of Irrigation and Drainage (AERYD), an associated entity of I-ReWater.

For I-ReWater Proyecto Interreg Sudoe, taking part in an international forum of this kind represents another opportunity to raise the visibility of the project’s results, exchange experiences with researchers from other countries and bring the knowledge generated over these three years closer to the scientific community, the irrigation sector and public administrations.
