Catalogue of pilot actions for forest conservation and resilience

The objective of this catalogue is to present in a synthetic and operational way the pilot actions that are currently experiencing new solutions to conserve forest resources, preserve and strengthen the resilience of forests. Pilot actions to be carried out in the territories (15 pilot sites are already planned) will include three types of solutions: 1/Planting new species and provenances to test their resistance in forests in the long term. This should help environments better cope with different threats. 2/Adoption of specific forestry actions to promote the adaptation and resilience of forests and the maintenance of associated ecosystem services. The aim is to improve, preserve or restore forest cover, for example by enriching the masses, which favors the mixing of species. 3/Implementing actions for the conservation of the forest genetic heritage. These actions aim to respond to important local challenges. The wide variety of forest situations (main objective of the masses, composition in species, age of the masses, etc.) and of the pedocclimatic conditions found must allow a good representativeness of the forest contexts of southwest Europe. The techniques used, the resources mobilised and the results of the pilot actions will be exploited and transferred 1) within the partnership, 2) to other local, regional and national institutions and actors and 3) to other territories of the EU through the European networks of partners and partners to facilitate their ownership. This catalogue will be integrated into the metadata base (ACT2.1) and will illustrate some of the operational recommendations of the Transnational Strategy (achievement of WG1).

Pilot of a 3D visualization room of biological systems.

The implementation of 3D display room prototypes of biological systems will be essential not only to develop drug repositioning strategies, but also, and what is very important, to develop and implement a new pedagogical strategy. This strategy will allow students from different levels and areas of study to come into contact with complex molecular structures, such as therapeutic goals and their interaction with drugs.

List of drugs for repositioning.

This achievement will fulfill the ultimate purpose of the drug repositioning process, which is to explore the potential to give new life to existing drugs, as well as introduce new molecules adapted to specific therapeutic needs. The materialisation of this realisation will be done through the availability of a list of drugs with potential to advance in the process of drug repositioning. This will be done recognising the role of the pharmaceutical industry in bringing medicines to patients.

Demostradores y living labs

Implementation of 3 collaborative robot demonstrators in a real productive environment focused on 3 different sectors of high representativeness and economic impact in the SUDOE space (carnic, fruit and plastics) and 3 living labs for the integration and demonstration of the results achieved in the framework of the project to the business fabric and other entities interested in implementing the solutions developed, or equivalent, in their production processes.

Deployment of the monitoring and control system in real locations

After the deployment and commissioning of the monitoring and control system, the locations/balconies will become the pilots of the project, where the data captured by the thermal water quality control system will be collected and analysed. These pilots will allow to evaluate the effectiveness of the system in real time and its ability to guarantee water quality in various thermal environments. The results obtained from these pilots will provide nexcessary information for the future implementation of the system in other spas within the Interreg SUDOE territory. Institute of Thermalism of the University of Bordeaux, a pilot in Portugal associated with the thermal pool of associate Gestão de Equipamentos do Município de Chaves, E.M., S.A., a pilot in the pool of the Hervideros de Cofrentes spa, a Pilot will unfold in the thermal pool of the Balneario El Raposo, a pilot will be developed by the associate Caldaria Termal SLU in the Spa of Laias and two pilots in resorts of France to define by HERE O Thermes, thermal cluster Nouvelle-Aquitaine, adding a total of 6 pilots

Pilot Actions

Two pilot actions will be developed and will contribute to the output indicator RCO84. The pilot actions are characterised by their cross-border and cooperative nature between the beneficiaries and the associated partners of the project and aim to implement the results of the study and scientific analysis activities of WG1 and WG2. The first pilot action aims to study the transferability of bio-products validated in the previous activities through the industrial incorporation and marketing of stabilised functional ingredients developed from agroforestry residual biomass. A value chain will be developed between the partners INGREDALIA, TAGUS Valey and ARGAL that will be based on the results of the GT1 and that will result in the testing and possible commercialisation of new sausages with biofunctional ingredients. The second pilot action seeks to replicate a transnational biorefinery process in the agroforestry sector that can be transferred to other entities in the cooperation space. The value chain will consist of the associated partners Alliance Forêts-Bois, Sogibois, FBS, TMAD and ENCE, who will provide the raw materials and partners INPT, INRAE, UVIGO, UMINHO, CETIM and BLC3 Evolution, who will take on the transformation and conversion. The efficiency and feasibility of this process will be analysed in order to study its possible continuity and replicability after the completion of the project. The achievements and results of these actions will in turn feed transnational strategies and provide consortium partners with very useful practical experience to ensure the transfer of validated by-products and processes.

Damage and defect detection demonstrator

Two main pilots will be developed. The first will consist of a demonstrator of the technologies developed in GT1, focused on the automatic detection of damage and defects in the products and materials selected in GT3. This global demonstrator will also integrate advances from all the GTs. Additionally, a collaborative video will be created to present the project’s results, highlighting this pilot and encouraging its adoption by the industry.

Global Demonstrator

Demonstrator of different technologies developed in this GT, applied to a specific case of remanufacturing or support for it, with a particular type of product. This demonstrator will have at least one robot, with access to a workspace, and a sensor system according to the specifications obtained from the activities of this GT. As input to the demonstrator, the damage or defect detection system developed in GT1 will be included.

Pilot activities in WSN for prevention and early detection of forest fires.

The campaigns described in GT3 represent pioneering Pilot Activities in the application of WSN to the prevention and early detection of forest fires, highlighting the extent of the territory and the diversity of locations, the variety of meteorological and environmental sensors, the size (number of nodes) of the WSNs, the duration of the campaigns and the participation of municipal forest fire fighting services and the local population. The Pilot Activities will bring together the knowledge and experience of forest fires accumulated by the consortium, bring new knowledge, technologies and results and allow to draw conclusions and learn lessons on the performance of WSNs. The consortium will translate the know-how acquired on the occasion of the Pilot Activities in two Practical GUIDES (GP) for the application of WSN to the prevention (GP_Prevention) and the early detection (GP_Detection) of forest fires. The GPs will serve as a reference and guidance on how to use WSNs to improve the anticipation and response capacity of rural municipalities and their inhabitants to forest fires. They will address aspects such as the identification and prioritisation of fire-vulnerable zones suitable for the establishment of WSN, WSN sizing and design, WSN deployment in the field, wireless infrastructure, energy efficiency and data transmission, cost assessment, sustainability and environmental impact, physical and information security, citizen participation and others. ICIFOR-INIA CSIC will lead the development of the GPs in which the entire consortium will be involved. A preliminary version of the GPs will be delivered in month 18 and the final version in month 34 of the Project.
