Aveiro Hosts a Seminar on Remanufacturing and Innovation in Industry as Part of the REMAIN Project

The Portuguese city of Aveiro will host a seminar on remanufacturing and innovation in industry as part of the European REMAIN project (Robotic REMAnufacturing of Deformable INdustrial Products). The business meeting will be held on October 15 at the Aveiro Institute of Employment and Vocational Training.

REMAIN is part of the Interreg Sudoe program, the Territorial Cooperation Program for the Southwest European Space, which supports regional development through the co-financing of transnational projects via the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

This initiative aims to promote sustainability in the footwear, textile, and furniture sectors. The REMAIN project is led by INESCOP, the Spanish Footwear Technology Center, with participation from the Spanish Footwear Industries Federation (FICE), AIDA CCI, the Universities of Alicante, Clermont Auvergne INP, Coimbra, and Zaragoza; as well as the Spanish company Automatic Control Numerical SL, the French company SMA-RTY, and the social association Proyecto Lázaro as a collaborator.

The goal of this initiative is to promote sustainability in industry, with a special focus on the footwear, textile, and furniture sectors. These industries are known for producing commonly used products with short lifespans, which generates a significant amount of waste. Therefore, the project aims to introduce remanufacturing as part of the business model, reducing waste and environmental impact.

During the Aveiro meeting, various presentations will be given by project partners, covering topics such as methods for detecting damage using RGB vision and tactile sensors, robotic perception tools, and the application of HW/SW platforms, among others.

The seminar will also address the project’s progress and present preliminary data from a market study that has been launched to analyze remanufacturing and repair in the manufacturing industry. The event will conclude with a networking session titled “How Portuguese Industry Can Benefit from Remanufacturing and Repair.”

This event presents an opportunity to showcase to Portuguese companies the benefits of adopting sustainable and responsible practices, and how they can apply these practices in their production processes to gain greater competitiveness in the global market through the sustainability of their industries.
