The international event, held in Penafiel, highlighted the commitment of the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa to forest sustainability and forest resilience in the SUDOE region.
The CIM of Tâmega e Sousa, as an active member of the Rural Fire Innovation Community of the European Fire-RES project, participated last 29th and 30th September in the international conference ‘Innovation Day Series Fire-RES’, in Penafiel. This initiative, promoted by the Portuguese Living Lab of Fire-RES, aims to develop an integrated strategy for the management of extreme forest fires in Europe..
During the event, the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa presented the BIO4RES – Interreg Sudoe project, of which it is a co-beneficiary entity. The main objective of this project is to improve the prevention and management of rural fire risk in the SUDOE region, which covers areas of Southwest Europe, through the valorisation of extracted biomass resources and the consolidation of more effective prevention plans. The initiative also promotes the strengthening of the resilience of local forests, a fundamental measure in the context of climate change and the increase of forest fires on the continent.
The BIO4RES project, in line with the objectives of Fire-RES, seeks not only to protect forests through active and preventive management, but also to promote the valorisation of the natural resources extracted in order to create a long-term sustainable prevention system. With this participation, CIM de Tâmega e Sousa reinforces its commitment to innovation in forest management and ecosystem resilience, contributing to a model of sustainability that can serve as an example throughout the SUDOE European region.
