Successful “Sustainable Innovations” workshop and the 3rd NEWPOWER Partners meeting in Bragança (PT)

The NEWPOWER project continues to advance!

On March 26, the workshop “Sustainable Innovations: Challenges and Opportunities in Ecological Recovery and Sustainable Production” was held in Bragança, within the framework of the NEWPOWER – Interreg Sudoe Project and organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB).

The event featured the distinguished presence of Isabel Ferreira, a member of the Assembly of the Republic, who participated in the workshop’s opening session. Her intervention reinforced the relevance of the meeting and the institutional commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.

The workshop brought together experts from the academic and scientific fields to share knowledge and experiences on the valorization of agroforestry waste through scalable multi-product biorefineries. Among the speakers were Pedro Ferreira Santos (UVigo), Susana Araújo (Colab MORE), Fernando Nunes (UTAD), Alexandre Gonçalves (Colab MORE), and Aline Silva Oliveira (CoLab ForestWise), who presented studies and ongoing projects. The event addressed both opportunities and challenges related to ecological recovery and sustainable production.

During the session, attendees had the opportunity to learn about different approaches and reflect on the future of agroforestry waste recovery. The exchange of ideas and experiences was enriching, promoting innovation and sustainability in the sector.

The following day, the NEWPOWER project partners took the opportunity to hold the third in-person project meeting at the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB). During the meeting, each partner shared the progress of their research related to the project, presented the results obtained so far, and discussed the next steps planned for the next six months. This session strengthened collaboration among partners and established new synergies.

The day also included a communication planning session, during which the schedule of activities leading up to the project’s completion was defined. The main objective is to ensure the dissemination of the results to all interested audiences, including awareness-raising activities aimed at the general public to raise awareness of current environmental issues and highlight the value of circular economy projects such as NEWPOWER.

The visit also took advantage of the opportunity to take a close look at the center’s facilities, where numerous studies and projects focused on sustainability are carried out.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the speakers and partners for their active participation and commitment to the project’s progress. Let’s continue working together for a more sustainable future!
